Introductory Wrestling

All Aiken County High Schools will be fielding a wrestling team this fall. To teach this new sport, Gregg Park is excited to announce Wrestling 101, a beginner's guide to the sport. Led by Coach Glen Hendry, the program will be held every Wednesday evening at 6 pm in the Gregg Park Activity Building beginning Wednesday, November 16 for ages 6 and up. The sessions will last 60 to 90 minutes and involve wrestling techniques and physical training. This is an excellent opportunity to learn how to wrestle.

Sessions will be $5 cash or check only, per person per session, payable at the door. Although specialized uniforms are needed for organized wrestling, beginners need only bring soft soled shoes and tighter fitting clothing to participate. Headgear, wrestling shoes and a practice uniform will be needed for long term participants in the program. This information will be available at the wrestling sessions.

Coach Hendry is a Pennsylvania native, a high school wrestler at Connellsville High School advancing to the State Championships in 1973, a one year college wrestler at Allegheny College, assistant wrestling coach for Perkiomen Valley High and a graduate of Penn State University with a BS degree in Geology. He is currently employed by Bechtel at Savannah River Site.

Assistant coaches with wrestling experience are encouraged to participate by calling 803-663-7552 and speak to John or by attending a session and speak to Coach Hendry.
